Benjakitti Park was originally opened in 2004 and has become the most popular green area in the centre of Bangkok with its gardens, boating lake and cycle track. It also has a handy elevated pedestrian link to Lumpini Park.
It has always been a lovely place to visit as an escape from the hectic streets of the city and to take in some green, relaxing space. It promises to be even better in the future.
The park has been undergoing construction and expansion work to increase the size to around 72 hectares and costing around 652 million baht (approx £15.8 million / US$21.7 million). It will be renamed Benjakitti Forest Park / Suan Pa Benjakitti.
The project will include the construction of a 1.5km elevated walkway, canals, ponds, sports areas and a bicycle track connecting to Lumpini Park.
