Phuket Sandbox And Samui Sealed Route Details

The Thai cabinet gave final approval yesterday for the “Phuket Sandbox” and Surat Thani (Koh Samui) “Sealed Route” tourism plans.

Both schemes will see the return of international visitors without the need for a mandatory quarantine period on arrival.

Phuket

The Phuket Sandbox will start as planned on 1st July.

International arrivals will only be allowed from low or medium risk countries. Please check your Thai embassy or consulate prior to travel.

Requirements

Before Arrival

  • Have received both doses of a recognised Covid-19 vaccination at least 14 days prior to arrival
  • Have a negative PCR test issued no more than 72 hours prior to arrival
  • Proof of Covid-19 insurance coverage of at least US$100,000 for the full duration of stay
  • Have reservations in Phuket SHA Plus hotels for at least the first 14 days
  • Apply for a Certificate of Entry, or COE at www.entrythailand.go.th 

In Phuket

  • Be tested for Covid-19 on arrival at Phuket International Airport and remain in hotel room until a negative result is received
  • Will also be tested on days 6/7 and 12/13. Will only be allowed to travel freely to other areas of Thailand if all tests are negative.
  • Install and use the MorChana phone tracking app
  • Stay in the same SHA Plus hotel for the first 7 days
  • Can change hotels twice on days 8 to 14 but all must be SHA Plus certified
  • Trips of less than 14 days are allowed but travellers must leave on a direct flight out of Phuket.

Further relaxation to restrictions in Phuket have also been announced but bars will remain closed for the time-being.

Shopping malls, centres and community malls, supermarkets and convenience stores, beauty salons and hairdressers, snooker/billiard/pool halls can now reopen (with a few restrictions). Restaurants and cafes can now sell alcohol for consumption on the premises until 11.00pm. Cinemas, theatres, and water parks are also allowed to reopen.

However pubs, bars, karaoke, entertainment venues, and establishments that resemble service places, boxing stadium, and all types of competition venues all remain closed.

The Phuket mask mandate remains in place which means that everyone must ‘always correctly and properly wear sanitary or fabric face masks outside their residence’.

Surat Thani

The Surat Thani “sealed route” covers Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao and starts on 15th July.

Before Arrival

  • Have received both doses of a recognised Covid-19 vaccination at least 14 days prior to arrival
  • Have a negative PCR test no more than 72 hours prior to arrival
  • Proof of Covid-19 insurance coverage of at least US$100,000 for the full duration of stay
  • Have reservations in approved hotels for at least the first 3 days
  • Apply for a Certificate of Entry, or COE at www.entrythailand.go.th 

In Surat Thani

  • Be tested for Covid-19 on arrival and remain in hotel room until a negative result is received
  • Will also be tested on days 6/7 and 12/13. Will only be allowed to travel freely to other areas of Thailand if all tests are negative.
  • Install and use the MorChana phone tracking app
  • Stay in the same hotel for at least the first 3 days. Will be allowed to leave their room but must stay on hotel premises
  • Can travel more freely on the sealed route on the same island on days 4 to 7
  • Can travel to the other two islands on the sealed route for days 8 to 14
