Phu Quoc in Vietnam is keen to become the first place in the country to reopen to foreign tourists, now Hong Kong have expressed their interest in piloting the project once it is launched.

Vietnam has been closed to foreign tourists since March last year but announced plans in June to welcome fully vaccinated travellers as soon as possible. Increasing numbers of Covid cases however has delayed any reopening plans.
Vietnam is currently on the Hong Kong “red list” meaning that anyone arriving from Vietnam must undergo a 21-day hotel quarantine.
Officials from Vietnam and Hong Kong met earlier this week and see Phu Quoc as being the ideal pilot location once specific conditions can be agreed.
Phu Quoc hopes to be able to start its equivalent of Thailand’s Phuket Sandbox in October.
