The Phuket 7+7 Extension was originally scheduled for a 1st August start but the current Covid-19 outbreak in Thailand has caused delays.
The Bangkok Post is reporting the the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is now urging the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) to approve the scheme as soon as possible.
The Extension would see foreign travellers arriving in Phuket under the current Sandbox arrangements but after 7 days being able to travel to a second destination on the approved list for the final 7 days of their initial stay.
The proposed locations for the extension are Surat Thani, Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao, Phangnga, Khao Lak, Kho Yao Yai and Koh Yao Noi and Krabi, Koh Phi Phi, Railay Beach, and Koh Ngai.
More than 20,000 visitors have now entered the Phuket Sandbox although a change in travel advice in the US, the largest single origin of travellers, last week may resuls in arrivals slowing in the coming weeks.
