Bangkok Tourism Reopening Delayed

The Thailand Reopening Plan, which started with Phuket on 1st July, had included Bangkok on 1st October, but these plans have now been delayed to ensure that at least 70% of the population receive their Covid-19 vaccination.

Prior to the pandemic it is estimated that almost 23 million people each year visited and stayed at least one night in Bangkok. A significant number of these visitors flew international into Bangkok for a short stay prior to heading off to other parts of Thailand for the rest of their holiday.

Prior to the pandemic just under 40 million people visited Thailand each year.

Although increasing numbers of people are transiting through Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport, the inability for travellers to visit Bangkok itself is a blow to tourism nationwide.

It is hoped that Bangkok will be able to reopen from 1st November, but details of entry requirements and restrictions are unlikely to be know until much closer to the opening date.
