Quarantine-free travel will return for all fully vaccinated areas to the existing 4 areas of the country running under the Sandbox plus up to an additional 15 areas including Bangkok from 1st November.
Italian Andrea Bocelli will perform at Sanam Luang in Bangkok, with the Grand Palace forming the background for the concert.
The tenor has sold more than 75 million records worldwide and has performed at major events and concerts for almost 30 years.
Lalisa Monaban, better known as “Lisa” is a member of the South Korean girl group Blackpink and will perform at a venue in Phuket.
She has just released her first solo album which sold more than 736,000 copies in South Korea in its first week and the lead single recorded 73.6 million views on YouTube in the first 24 hours.
Dates of the concerts have not yet been finalised, although New Year celebrations are the clear favourite with organisers.
“Bringing both artists to Thailand is beyond economic value, particularly Lalisa ‘Lisa’ Monaban, the young Thai K-pop singer, who is a huge inspiration for the youth of the country.”
“We also need to discuss with the Public Health Ministry the number of audience members allowed and other health and safety protocols for such big events when we are still battling an outbreak.”Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Tourism and Sports Minister
The concerts are thought to have a budget of around 500-600 million baht (approx £10.9 – £13.1 million / US$15 – US$18 million). They will be financed through a mixture of state and private funding.
