Good And Bad Tourism News From Thailand

The Thai Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) has issued two statements that will bring cheer to some but sorrow to others.

New Year Celebrations

First the good news. Alcohol is back on the menu throughout Thailand, at least for New Years Eve.

Many areas of the country, in higher level control zones, have seen alcohol barred from restaurants but for one night only it will return.

Under the special dispensation alcohol will be able to be served in eateries until 1am on 1st January, provided that they have good ventilation and are open air.

New Year celebrations are also permitted but all attendees of events for more than 1,0000 people must be fully vaccinated and have a negative ATK test result issued 72 hours prior to the event.for any events for over 1,000 people. Customers are required to register or purchase tickets in advance of the event.

All attendees at events under 1,000 people must be fully vaccinated.

Quarantine

The CCSA also announced that the quarantine period for people entering under the Sandbox or Alternative Quarantine schemes will increase from 5 to 7 days from 16th December.

The two schemes are designed for travellers who do not qualify for the quarantine-free “Test & Go” scheme.

The change is in response to the rapidly increasing numbers of the Covid-19 Omicron variant throughout the world.
