Where to Stay in Khao Lak

Bang La On & Nang Thong Beach

The most developed village in the area is La On so if you are looking for easy access to some nightlife then this is for you, just don’t expect the nightlife to be similar to that in Phuket or Bangkok. In additional to hotels and guesthouses there are also a number of shops, tailors, dive centres, tour centres etc in the village. As you move away from the village towards the sea you find Nang Thong Beach where most of the resorts are located.

Southern Beaches

South of La On are a number of beaches offering a much quieter location ideal for people wanting to get away from it all. There are a number of local shops, restaurants and bars which means that you do not need to travel to La On.

Bang Niang

Just north of La On is the next largest village and the location of the excellent market which attracts visitors from throughout Khao Lak. There are a number of good shopping and eating choices away from the market.

A laid back atmosphere that retains its local charm and character with a wonderful beach and range of accommodation.

Northern Beaches

Again less built up with fewer local restaurants and bars but some excellent beaches and resorts that shouldn’t be discounted.

We have found some of the best food in the area here both on the beach and road that runs north to south throughout Khao Lak.

Khao Lak

Khao Lak is a district rather than a town so expect tourist locations to be spread throughout the area, mainly located on or near one of the many stunning beaches. All of the areas tend to be quiet with little development allowing for a more relaxed holiday.

The area was decimated during the 2004 tsunami but has bounced back well without the high rise developments seen in Phuket. There are a number of tsunami memorials in the area.
